At The Carpets Flooring Dubai, we primarily use high-quality 100% wool for our hand-tufted carpets, with most being manufactured using 100% New Zealand wool yarn. Other yarns such as nylon, cotton, and viscose are also incorporated when required. Accents in silk or bamboo add a lush, rich sheen when used alongside wool, creating striking detail in the carpets. Merino and semi-worsted wool yarns are also available. These finer yarns are used for intricate design details, including petit point loop and low tight cut-pile constructions, resulting in an extremely smooth, soft, and durable surface.

When we provide hand-tufted carpets, clients have the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of surface options and finishes that will suit their individual style and design aesthetics. Some surface options include cut-pile, loop pile, or a combination of the two. Among our finishing techniques are random shearing, carving, bevelling, recessing, and embossing, which can be applied to these surfaces, giving hand-tufted carpets and rugs a touch of elegance. A combination of surface levels can also be used to create a high degree of sculpting, producing three-dimensional effects that add an extra “wow” factor to the finished products. Once the design process is completed, we send the custom design to one of our skilled and experienced designers to render the design into a scaled production-ready format using the latest computer-aided design software. After the design is approved, a sample is produced in the design, scale, color, and finish requirements of the client’s request. This “prototype” process typically takes 3-4 weeks to complete.

These area rugs are woven by hand, thread by thread, knot by knot. The Tibetan wool used for these rugs is among the strongest available for area rugs. Thanks to its greasiness and long fibers from sheep living in the harsh Himalayan Mountains, the rugs are of exceptional durability and can last for years. Luxurious effects can be achieved by incorporating pure natural silk.

The development of a hand-knotted area rug is a unique and fascinating process, especially in today’s modern world. The process begins with the client’s mood board. To ensure the concept is fully understood, our designers always communicate directly with the client. Once the final artwork is approved, the production facility begins spinning and carding the yarn. This is all done by hand, giving the area rug a livelier look. Next, the yarn is colored in boiling water. On average, a hand-knotted carpet has about 155,000 knots per square meter. After weaving, the rug is washed in clear water, which helps the wool fibers knit together. This washing may alter the rug’s dimensions, but the rug is stretched to maintain the desired size. After stretching, the edges are neatly bound with wool, and shearing begins. The shearing is done entirely by hand, allowing for different pile heights to be created. The finishing is the most challenging part, and only highly experienced workers can perform the clipping and carving. The carving sharpens the designs. Once production is complete, each rug undergoes thorough inspection by both the production manager and the designer.
